Iron & Glass, the author’s journey (Part 1)

I’m starting a new series (yeah!).

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about various topics pertaining to my upcoming Paranormal YA novel, Iron & Glass. I’ll show how the story and characters developed, and the journey an author goes through when creating a story.  After the book comes out, I’ll move on onto topics that would be too spoilery to cover right now. I might even write some short stories about the characters, but I haven’t decided yet.

Here’s the book’s pitch, the “back of the book” so to speak.

Lights glare in her eyes; she tires blinking them away. Her foot swings in front of her, a screeching noise in her ears. Her world spins around her. A warm liquid touches her skin. The moan of a siren, the smell of wood, the beat of a heart, the cold body beneath soft fingertips—cold; bodies are supposed to be warm…

Ballerina Calissa Delano Lavalle lost her mother in a car accident, and now she struggles to dance. Her coach recommends Calissa take a break, but, without dancing, nothing can distract Calissa from her mother’s absence and the distance her father’s placed between them. Calissa tries pulling the unraveling threads of her life together, but even her friends slip away.

Weighted with the past, she cannot move forward, until something new invades. Animals have started following Calissa. Her life takes a dangerous turn where the supernatural becomes real. Two beautiful and undoubtedly lethal boys will change Calissa’s life, tangling her past and future, endangering her friends and family, and forcing Calissa to search inside herself and discover what it means to be human.

Like dun, duh, da! The release date! Iron & Glass will be released on August 18th in e-book format.

At the moment, I don’t have any plans releasing hard copies.

The cover will be revealed soon, and I’m excited about that.

Anyways, send any questions or comments you guys have about the book my way. I’d be happy to answer them!

Yikes! (Dreams to Reality (day 426))

Help . . . I’m so overwhelmed!

I’m currently . . .

  • Self-publishing my novel Iron & Glass- coming out August 18th! I’ve got a magazine sponsoring me and more about the book can be found here.
  • Editing book two of a Fantasy series I’m co-writing with my sister
  • Editing a query letter for book one–The Day of the Black Moon–of the same series
  • Querying my YA Fantasy The Cat that Swallowed the Moon (lots of moons, huh?)
  • Teaching myself Japanese (any advice?)
  • Taking summer classes (ugg)
  • and working two jobs

Quite the list. Frankly, I’d get bored without lots to do. The biggest bummer is, with all this going on, I can’t actually write. I wanted to write the last book of my steampunk trilogy and the second book of a different Fantasy series over the summer but . . .? I already wrote one book over the spring semester, but still.

I won’t until I complete one of these projects. I really need to focus. I could write until my fingers fall off, but that won’t pay the bills! My writing will, one day.

Anyways. I’m going to get back to work before time completely runs away from me.
